A letter to the community:

Hello neighbors!

In the hopes of quickly establishing a presence online, you’ve seen me post a lot of content recently without much of a background on what I am trying to accomplish. It’s simple.

I want to create a newsreel that captures change as we see it happen here on the LES. A humble local news outlet - delivered through Twitter, Instagram, and a website (link in my bio) - that answers the questions you ask yourself every time your 3rd favorite taco joint closes, a new weed shop opens, the local Jewish haberdashery relocates, and an ultra-luxury building opens its doors next to you.

My sentences will inevitably be too long or too short for your tasting (I’m not a journalist) and every once in a while, I’ll make a mistake that will make you think there’s no way this writer is from the Lower East Side (I’m not). But I'll try my best.

The best type of local journalism is heavily crowd-sourced, which brings me to my last point. Tell me everything! I plan to engage directly with local business and community organizations in the future, but until then all I've got is you, my audience, to get the inside scoop on the hundreds of businesses and events going on in our little part of the city every day. I can only get so much information from Google, social media, or from reading a sign on a storefront, so give me everything you've got.

I don’t have much of an infrastructure set up at the moment to deliver news every week, much less every single day, but with a little bit more work on my part and your help, I think it's realistic to have such a setup by the end of the year.
