'Salad Joon' Opens Up In Essex Market
Just a couple stalls in from Essex Market's main entrance on Delancey is perhaps the Lower East Side's only dedicated salad restaurant.
Admittedly, I'm a little late in the game for this one. @saladjoonnyc opened in the Market on the 20th of February this year.
For almost three months, the stall has been serving up salad bowls with a Middle Eastern and Persian touch to Essex Market patrons. The latter half of the name, "Joon", is a term of endearment among Farsi speakers.
The salad bar is a passion project by two Persian New Yorkers who've sought to fill a gap that I had assumed to have long been filled. But it's true, no? There's no other straight salad bar in the LES, look it up on Google Maps. This was surprising to me.
On any given day, you'll find Guillermo, a native Brooklynite, and Chef Jared (pictured), formerly of Sweet Chick (in the LES) and Jane (in Greenwich Village), manning the stall.
They may be only a couple months in, but the stall has gained some recognition for its inventive sauces and ironically, its brownies too.

We wish them the best of luck!
