Recent Closures and Relocations in Little Fuzhou
No longer strangers to change, Little Fuzhou gets a little bit smaller.

*Important edit at bottom*
A walk down Essex today revealed more than just a glimpse of what's to come and what's already changed in the southern part of the Lower East Side, with more Chinese businesses seemingly being lost.
Ming's Café, in the area since at least 2009, and Century Pharmacy***, there since at least 2007, were boarded up with large signs indicating the sites are ready for new tenants.
Walking across down past Henry St., I also saw the leasing sign on Fuzhou Market, which seems to have closed sometime during the pandemic. The leasing sign, according to Google Street View, has been present there since 2019.
With the recent loss of these businesses, along with many others that I am sure I haven't noticed, Little Fuzhou is quickly losing territory.
Now the end of the walk to the pier… that might just take more than one post to explain what's going on there. Maybe a dozen or two might do the trick. And the reason why might have to do with a certain gargantuan glass skyscraper looking down on the rest of the Lower East Side…
*It was brought to my attention that Century Pharmacy has relocated, not shut down.*
