Popular NYC Climbing Gym Coming to the LES; Signs Lease at Massive Space on Broome St.
The company owns climbing gyms across the city and in California.
This spring of 2024, a new gym is heading to the heart of the Lower East Side as part of the Essex Crossing project. VITAL climbing gym is in the process of building out one of the largest commercial spaces south of 14th Street after securing a lease in April at 182 Broome St, right below the entrance to the Williamsburg Bridge. The company owns climbing gyms across the city, including two in Upper Manhattan and one in Greenpoint.
The sheer size of the facilities is unprecedented in the neighborhood, with more than 45,000 square feet of commercial space reserved by VITAL to offer a wide range of fitness options. Their website lists yoga studios, cycling rooms, large fitness areas, and bouldering as some of the many amenities offered to members, who pay $115 to $145 monthly for a membership in New York City, depending on the payment plan and location selected. The space will also be home to an indoor public garden and open workspaces, in case you didn’t think the rest was enough.
Two of the three NYC locations offer 24/7 member access; I would find it unusual if the same weren't offered here. More information on hours and floorplans is likely to come soon.
The move is a major win for the Essex Crossing development as a whole, which can now add a gym and lifestyle center to its long list of diverse commercial partners including Target, Trader Joes, Regal Cinemas, a bowling alley, and the dozens of independent market vendors that make up Essex Market and the Market Line.
