Les Enfants de Boheme Sheds the Scaffolding
It wasn't the only delinquent one in the neighborhood.
The French bistro on the corner of Henry and Jefferson St has finally escaped the shade for the first time since 2019 when on March 8th, their landlord finally removed the scaffolding from the corner of Henry and Jefferson.
Stefan, a Paris-native and owner of Les Enfants de Boheme, was relieved to see it removed. He said the restaurant will soon re-open its hole-in-the-wall café booth, which he shut down years ago because of the lost foot traffic resulting from the scaffolding.
Despite the open terrace windows and the weekly jazz shows, the sheds had fostered a speakeasy-esque vibe at Les Enfants, a sharp contrast to the way it feels just days later - like your most typical cozy, neighborhood Parisian bistro.
It's no news to anyone that this isn't the only delinquent scaffold. A couple of you suggested to check out other sheds that have been installed for a long time. We had one person suggest the SE corner of Ludlow and Hester - that one's been there since 2019 - but it's not the oldest. Neither is LES Preparatory High School's (on Stanton/Suffolk) scaffolding the oldest (also 2019).
But one guy has the best guess so far - Jack Marcus suggested the SE corner of Norfolk and Rivington, where the Shake Shack is now. This shed has been up since 2017. That's 7 years. Ridiculous. Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine made a list a couple months back, ranking the oldest sheds in Manhattan. His 8th place is actually younger than this one.

Check out the pictures of Les Enfants before and after the scaffolding, but also take note of how much that little tree to the right has grown!
