Late Night Spot 'Jonny's Pizza' Opens on Orchard and Stanton, Replaces Zazzy's
Zazzy's has been quickly replaced by another pizza shop targeting the late night crowd.
Jonny's Pizza offers a simple menu: a cheese, pepperoni, or vodka slice. That's no coincidence as Jonny, a 24-year old NYU grad, took the ideas that made his old place of work (7th Street Burger) successful and applied the same concepts to pizza. Having no previous pizza-baking experience, Jonny would bake in his own oven until finding an East Village Italian restaurant willing to let him use their ovens every morning before they opened.
Jonny signed the lease in February of this year and started renovations soon after, adding neon green signs bearing the business' name atop a white background on the building's façade. Jonny kept the French doors he admired and cleaned up the gritty interior that Zazzy's had left behind, then painted that white too.
Judging from StreetView, Zazzy's must have moved in around the first year of the pandemic. It's predecessor, Rosario's Pizza, had been there since before 2007.
Wishing Jonny's Pizza the best of luck these next few weeks/months as the business ramps up its operations by opening on more days and for more hours.
