CB3 Vice-Chair Sarah Batchu Launches Campaign for Carlina Rivera's Seat
CB3 Vice-Chair Sarah Batchu kicked off her campaign for the 2025 City Council race in December at Boulton & Watt.
Batchu was photographed speaking to former boss De Blasio a couple months back, likely seeking advice as she prepared her bid for office.
Aside from her stint at De Blasio's policy office, Batchu has the local non-profit background typical of candidates in the district. Here's a list of where she's contributed most following her graduation from Barnard in 2016:
Director of Programs at Fifth Avenue Committee (2023-present)
Interim Director at Center for Wellbeing & Happiness (2021-23)
Chief of Staff at The Lower Eastside Girls Club of New York (2021-23)
Policy Analyst at Office of the Mayor of New York City (2019-2021)
Chair of CB3's Cannabis Control Task Force
Deputy Campaign Manager for Council Member Carlina Rivera
As chair of the Cannabis Control Task Force, she oversees the license-granting process for dispensary permits in the neighborhood.
Lastly, Carlina's endorsement would be any candidate's most important endorsement. If the race remains unchanged, Carlina will have to decide between endorsing a former deputy campaign manager or the candidate running the organization that got her the seat.
Running against CB3 Chair Andrea Gordillo, you can't help but laugh at how the two candidates will sit next to each other in every monthly full CB3 meeting for the next 12 months, especially since they both got the title bump in December.
She's lived in all three main sections of the district in the past 7 years, covering Greenwich Village, Kips Bay/Gramercy, and the East Village. Batchu is currently endorsed by Sabura Rashid, a local playwright, theater director, and NYCHA Tenant Association President of LES III on East 9th St.
