CB3 Sees Surge of Weed Dispensary Applications, 17 to Come Before Board in November
It was bound to happen, but that doesn't mean it's still anything less than a surprise.
Next month, Community Board 3's Cannabis Task Force will meet the prospective owners of 17 different dispensaries, where they are expected to spell out how they plan to contribute to the Lower East Side community.
Given the volume of applications, CB3 has taken the unusual but understandable step of splitting the meeting, which is open to the public, into two, on Nov 9th and 13th.
One session is meant for applications below Houston and the other for applications above. I've included a map among the pictures, that show where each of these may lie.
First thing one might notice is that the establishments are concentrated along paths that are either commercial corridors (St. Marks and the Bowery) or have relatively wide streets (Houston and Chrystie). These are preferences members of the community board have expressed in previous task force meetings.
I will keep you updated on the status of these applications. Check out the meeting times and locations below.
Meeting #1 - For 8 applications south of Houston
November 9th at 6:30pm
Houston Street Center, Double Classrooms 2 & 3 - 273 Bowery
3 of 8 applications are for a single address (173 Chrystie), not sure what's happening here
Meeting #2 - For 9 applications north of Houston
November 13th at 6:30pm
The Clemente Soto Velez Cultural and Educational Center - 107 Suffolk Street
Includes one application south of Houston
